PNGFA has created and established long term partnerships and relationships with Government and Private Stakeholders over the years. Football has the power to unite us, to bridge divides, and to foster a sense of belonging for all Papua New Guineans. PNGFA working closely with its stakeholders and its partners believes that Football is something greater, a movement that transcends boundaries and brings joy to our communities.
TEAM UP (Oceania Football Confederation’s Global Partner)
Team Up is the Australian Government’s sport for development program in the Asia-Pacific that works with more than 60 partners to deliver sport for development programs in six Pacific countries (Including Papua New Guinea), with the key focus areas being gender, disability, governance, safeguarding, leadership and communications.
Through the Team Up global partner, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), Team Up has been supporting the OFC Just Play PNG Programme since its revival in 2022, to share knowledge and experience from Team Up programs, and learn from others in the sector.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (PNG)
The Papua New Guinea Football Association Inc (PNGFA) working in partnership with the Department of Education of Papua New Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2024 for the implementation of sport for development programs in schools around PNG. The purpose of the MoU was to introduce the new social and educational sports curriculum in Football to the Department of Education known as the Just Play Programme and the FIFA Football for SCHOOLS (F4S).
PNG Football Association Launches Football For Schools
PNGFA President John Kapi Natto thank FIFA for its vision in taking football under this program to over 100 countries around the globe.“Its history in the making for PNG Football and those schools involved with Football For School Program,” he said. Kapi Natto commend the vision of former Manager Arsenal FC Arsene Wegner for his foresight introducing the Football For School as per FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s vision to drive football across the globe.With the Memorandum of Understanding in place with Education Department, Kapi Natto said PNGFA now can work closely with education to help roll-out throughout the country.Football For Schools not only teaches the game but also lifetime skills such as become a good person through this program. Teachers and volunteers will be the main implementors of this program.This program (F4S) teaches value of respect which is one of the great messages to change our country.FIFA Representative and Manager Football For Schools Antonio Buenano thanked Kapi Natto for launching the program. “It is very good first step for a long road. The 35 participants in the last 2 days have shown great enthusiasm and passion plus they are willing to learn more and teach our school children,” he said. 35 participants have received their Diplomas after completing a two-days intense Capacity Building Workshop to roll-out the FIFA Football For Schools program next year. FIFA Football For School Manager Antonio Buenano said he was pleased that whole class pass their test and are now qualified as Master Trainers for Football For Schools in the country.He said these 35 participants has mammoth task to teach what they learn from this Capacity Building Workshop to spread the bible of Football For Schools. The participants came from all parts of the country like Mendi, Mt Hagen, Madang, Lae, Popondetta, Bougainville, Aroma (Central), Kerema and National Capital District. PNGFA President John Kapi Natto while presenting their Diploma said this is a beginning of the new era at schools’ level. The School For Football in schools will compliment all the youth development program set by PNGFA.
